“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Our Heavenly Father loves us far more deeply than we can ever fully come to understand, and yearns to give us good things and the blessings and desires of our hearts, we know this from throughout the scriptures, but also we should know this from our own experience and the experience of our fellow believers with whom we should be in fellowship, sharing our testimonies of what God has been doing in our lives.

We see in the words spoken by Nathan the prophet to David “and if that had been too little I also would have given you much more.”

Jesus says “ask and ye shall receive.”

In the letter of James we read “ye have not because ye ask not.”

The scriptures are full of the message of God’s generosity toward us and his longing to bless us. This is a beautiful message, one I too struggle to sometimes remember, but God is a far better father than I could ever hope to be.

I, as a young father, love my children, and I love to bless them, both with things they like and also with unasked for surprise blessings.

Sometimes, I frustrate my wife with how much I love to bless my children, but it brings me joy when I pour out blessing on them, and I love to see the joy on their faces when I bless them, but this should lead us into a deeper understanding of our Heavenly Father.

If we, being evil, fallen by a sun nature, love to give good gifts to our children, if we love to bless them with things, how much more does God love to bless us (Jesus teaches us this same lesson when talking about the gift of the Holy Spirit).

Now, some of the blessings of God that we receive will be spiritual in nature, and many blessings will await us in our eternal home, but even amidst this world and life God pours out many blessings upon us, and desires to bless us with abundant blessings.

This is a happy message, we wherein we should be glad that we have a good Father that looks to lavish gifts upon us, we have but to ask, and to ask not out of lust or sinful desires, and to be thankful for all things.

Does this mean God will give us every thing we ask for? Absolutely not, even as there are gifts I cannot give to my children or do not, but God is good and longs to bless us with more than we realize, if we but ask.

Go out today, praise the name of our God, and with a cheerful and thankful heart, ask Him to bless you and reap the blessings of His goodness.
