The Bible is filled with commands and examples of why we aught to cast away those things that are not of God, which can lead to the dissolving of relationships. While it may seem like the opposite direction than we would find from a God who is not willing that any should perish (II Peter 3:9), yet it is something that even Jesus taught us. Jesus said to his disciples “Do not give what is Holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearl before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” (Matthew 7:6) Rather we must be a good watchman, like Ezekiel 33, and warn the people and if they refuse to hear we will have done our part. Even the disciples were sent into cities, and those that would not listen, the disciples were to dust their feet off at the gates and they would face God’ judgement. II Corinthians 10:5 reads “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God…”
There is a clear distinction between sinners who are in need of saving, and those who set themselves against God and will not come to Him. Our job, as sharers of the word then becomes to share it, and let each man come to God or not. We must witness to all, but know that some will never follow God, but will always chase after evil, and it is these that we must have nothing to do with. Dine with sinners who will recognize God, such as Matthew the tax collector turned disciple. When light allows itself to be polluted by persistent darkness it can drown out that light. This happened to Israel when king Asa, who walked in the ways of God and cast out idolatry in Israel left the groves, which left open a door to sin, which was walked through by a future king. This time of sinfulness lead Israel to being punished for their darkness until Hezekiah would tear down the groves, fully cleansing Israel of those temptations into sin, he had separated light from dark, and cast out the darkness. Do not be afraid to cast aside stumbling blocks for fear that you may not save a certain soul, some souls will not allow themselves to feel God’s love, and all we can do is walk away and keep praying for them and maybe God will send another to heal them and bring them into His will.
Amen.
